A social media user has been sentenced to two years imprisonment after pleading guilty to spreading misinformation with malicious intent about the daughter of singers Adekunle Gold and Simi.
The convict, Mr. Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, known on X as @Swanky_concept, had shared a post falsely insinuating that Deja, the daughter of Adekunle Gold and Simi, was deceased. In the post, he wrote: “My sincere condolences to the Adekunle family. Rip to Deja.”
He was subsequently arraigned in court, where he pleaded guilty on May 14 to charges of cyberbullying and defamation.
On May 15, the court sentenced him to two years imprisonment.
Following the ruling, some X users have described the sentencing as a warning to individuals who use social media to spread misinformation and engage in online harassment.
