Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has responded to allegations made against him by UK-based DJ, popularly known as Baddest DJ Timmy, over claims that he owes £4,106.
DJ Timmy had accused the singer of refusing to repay the alleged debt and shared an invoice as evidence of his claim. He also threatened to reveal what he described as Timi Dakolo’s private activities and alleged “s£xcapades” in Lagos to the singer’s wife, who is currently in the United Kingdom with their children.
However, Timi Dakolo has denied owing the DJ any money, describing the allegations as false and defamatory.
In a statement issued through his lawyers, Dakolo explained that he and Revolve Entertainment, owned by Otis Ayodele Kubeyinje, popularly known as Baddest DJ Timmy, entered into a written Performance Agreement for a proposed UK tour.
According to the statement, Revolve Entertainment, as the promoter of the tour, was responsible for securing venues, providing sound, lighting, technical production, local production arrangements, as well as covering visa-related expenses, flights, accommodation, and transportation.
The lawyers stated that the agreement clearly placed these responsibilities on the promoter, adding that the expenses were “non-recoupable” and were to be fully covered by Revolve Entertainment.
The statement further explained that the planned tour did not hold because the promoter allegedly failed to meet key production requirements.
It read:
“Unfortunately, the proposed tour never proceeded because Revolve Entertainment failed to satisfy fundamental production requirements, particularly in respect of sound, lighting and technical production, which were contractual obligations resting solely upon the Promoter.
“The technical arrangements proposed fell materially below the professional standard required for a live performance by our client and his band. As a result, the tour could not proceed at that principal period.”
Dakolo’s legal team maintained that the singer bears no responsibility for expenses allegedly incurred by the promoter, noting that such costs were either assigned to the promoter under the agreement or made without the required approvals.
They added that the UK tour was never officially announced because the conditions required to finalize the announcement were not fulfilled by the company.
The lawyers have also demanded that DJ Timmy removes what they described as defamatory publications against Timi Dakolo, issues a public apology, retracts the statements, and stops further actions that could damage the singer’s reputation.
They warned that failure to comply with the demands would result in legal action.
The matter has continued to generate reactions online as both parties present different accounts of the disagreement.
