The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has resigned from his position amid reports that some lawmakers were planning to impeach him.
Agbebaku’s resignation was confirmed on Monday, August 17, 2026, by his media aide, Ivy Ebojele.
Ebojele disclosed that further details surrounding the Speaker’s decision would be made public.
Confirming the development in a brief statement, she wrote: “Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Chief Blessing Agbebaku resigns.”
The resignation comes amid growing tension within the Edo State House of Assembly, with lawmakers reportedly moving to remove Agbebaku from office before he stepped down.
