The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of nine bodies along the Wawa-Lumma road in Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were reportedly travelling along the route when they were allegedly attacked by suspected bandits.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Wednesday.
According to him, the police received information about the incident on Tuesday, prompting the deployment of police and military tactical teams to the area.
Abiodun said the joint security team recovered and evacuated the bodies from the scene, while intensified clearance operations were launched to secure the road and surrounding communities.
He added that security personnel had been deployed to prevent further threats and restore safety along the affected route.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over security on roads in parts of Niger State, particularly routes vulnerable to attacks by criminal groups.
