2027: INEC Issues Access Codes to Nine Political Parties for Candidates’ Particulars

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says nine registered political parties have collected access codes to upload the particulars of their candidates for the presidential and National Assembly elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC National Commissioner in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, Malam Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

“As of the close of work on Monday, nine political parties had collected the access codes for the national elections,” Haruna said.

He listed the parties as Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Haruna explained that it is the responsibility of political parties participating in the elections to approach the commission to obtain the access codes, rather than expecting INEC to deliver them to party secretariats.

He added that anyone seeking to collect the code on behalf of a political party must present a letter of authorisation from the party’s leadership.

The national commissioner noted that INEC had already issued guidelines for candidate nominations and urged political parties to comply strictly with the requirements. He added that party officials had been trained by the commission on the nomination process.

Haruna also warned political parties against waiting until the last minute to complete and submit their nomination forms through the online portal.

“INEC has been generous by extending the submission deadline from the close of work to midnight on the deadline date. If any political party chooses to wait until the last day, the commission cannot be blamed for any resulting challenges,” he said.

NAN reports that INEC has fixed June 27 to July 11 as the period for political parties to submit nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates through its designated candidate nomination portal.
