A young man was fatally shot by gunmen outside the main gate of the University of Benin.
The attack occurred in broad daylight on Sunday, May 10, 2026. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants used another vehicle to block a Mercedes-Benz GLK before opening fire repeatedly on the driver.
The victim, said to be a part-time student of the university, died on the spot. Videos from the scene showed him slumped inside the vehicle, with multiple bullet holes visible on the windshield.
The incident sparked panic around the campus area as residents, students, and passersby gathered at the scene.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the shooting.
