Seven Killed, Scores Injured as Gunmen Attack Plateau Community

Gunmen have attacked Gwon-Ajang village in the Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least seven people and injuring several others.

The attackers, suspected to be armed herders, reportedly invaded the community on Sunday night, May 31, 2026.

The spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulder-Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident on Monday, saying the attack occurred at about 9:30 p.m.

“At least seven persons were reportedly killed in another armed invasion perpetrated by suspected Fulani terrorists at about 9:30 p.m. on May 31, 2026, in Gwon-Ajang village of Foron District, Barkin Ladi LGA,” Tengwong said.

He added that more than 10 people sustained injuries during the attack.

According to Tengwong, the commander of the Special Task Force responsible for security in the area said the attack came as a surprise.

“The Special Task Force commander in charge of that axis said the incident took him by surprise. Usually, there are signs before such attacks, but there was no indication or threat prior to this one,” he said.
