“I k!lled the okada rider to avenge what he did to me four years ago” — M#rder suspect confesses

Detectives attached to the Homicide Section of the Osun State Police Command have arrested a motorcycle rider identified simply as Adedayo for allegedly m#rdering his colleague, Tiamiyu Afeez, and making away with his motorcycle in February this year.

Confirming the arrest to newsmen, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said a family member of the deceased reported at the A Division, Ede, on February 23 at about 6 p.m. that Afeez, who had left home on February 21 at about 8 a.m. for his commercial motorcycle business within Ede town, never returned home.

According to Ojelabi, the family made several efforts to trace his whereabouts without success before receiving information that a police patrol team from Awo Division discovered an unidentified male corpse along the Ojo/Ara Ejigbo Road with his throat sl!t.

The corpse was later identified as Afeez, prompting a m#rder investigation. The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, and assigned to the Homicide Section.

“During intelligence-led investigation and technology analysis, the suspect was apprehended on April 18, 2026, by detectives of the Homicide Section, and the deceased’s stolen Bajaj motorcycle was recovered from him,” the police spokesperson said.

While being interrogated, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and narrated what led to the k!lling.

“I am an electrician from Ede town. It is true that I k!lled Afeez, popularly known as ‘Olode.’ About four years ago, he stopped me around 4 a.m. and accused me of being involved in ritual k!llings because I was going to a bank during the cash scarcity period when people queued overnight to withdraw money.

“He searched me, collected my two phones and some money, and took me to the police station. Although the police later released me on bail, my phones and money were never returned. Since then, I held a grudge against him,” he said.

The suspect explained that he later met Afeez again during Ramadan this year and collected his phone number under the guise of hiring him for transportation services.

According to him, he lured the deceased to a deserted bush path, where he attacked him with a knife.

“I hid a knife with me and asked him to ride slowly through the bush path. From behind, I sl!t his throat and we both fell from the motorcycle. He pleaded with me and even offered to leave the bike for me, but I told him I was paying him back for what he did to me years ago,” he confessed.

The suspect further admitted that he initially used the stolen motorcycle for private and commercial purposes before abandoning it with the wife of a friend out of fear of being caught.

He also claimed he had previously engaged in native medicine practices and performed rituals for internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo boys.

“I know what I did is against the law. It was the devil that pushed me. I plead with the government to show me mercy and forgive me,” he added.

Ojelabi stated that the suspect would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.
