The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged vandalisation of transformer cables and other criminal activities in Tanke-Iledu, Ilorin.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASCI Ayoola Michael Shola, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
According to the statement, the suspects—20-year-old Nurah Abdullahi, popularly known as Hartabo, and 23-year-old Sherif Abdullahi—were arrested on October 5, 2026, following a credible intelligence tip-off and an intelligence-led operation by NSCDC operatives.
During the operation and subsequent search, the operatives recovered vandalised transformer cables, cable outer and inner peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife, and a pair of electrical gloves, among other items relevant to the investigation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are allegedly linked to the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure within the Tanke-Iledu community. The Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons suspected of being involved in the activities.
The State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure across the state.
Mohammed reiterated that Kwara State would not be allowed to become a safe haven for vandals, criminals or economic saboteurs. He assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to identify, arrest and investigate individuals involved in activities capable of threatening public safety and critical infrastructure.
The Commandant also warned individuals involved in the vandalisation of public infrastructure to desist from such acts, stressing that the NSCDC remains committed to protecting government assets and safeguarding the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of Kwara State.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the completion of investigations and the establishment of a prima facie case, in accordance with the law.
