Nigerian winger David Akintola has left Hull City following the mutual termination of his contract, bringing his time at the English club to an end without making a Premier League appearance.
The 30-year-old has completed a permanent transfer to Cypriot club Omonoia FC after reaching an agreement with Hull City to end his contract.
Akintola joined Hull City in August 2025 from Turkish side Çaykur Rizespor, securing a move to English football after previous spells in Denmark, Norway, Cyprus and Turkey.
During his debut season at Hull City, the winger made 20 appearances in the EFL Championship, mostly coming off the bench. He contributed one goal and two assists, with his only goal coming in October 2025 as Hull City secured a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United.
His final competitive appearance for the club came on January 24, 2026, when he was introduced as a substitute in Hull City’s 2-1 victory over Swansea City. He was subsequently left out of the squad for much of the remainder of the season.
Following a series of injuries within the squad, Hull City successfully appealed to the English Football League (EFL) for permission to re-register Akintola late in the campaign after midfielder Eliot Matazo suffered a serious knee injury.
The decision made Akintola eligible for selection ahead of Hull City’s Championship play-off final against Middlesbrough at Wembley Stadium on May 23, 2026. Hull City won the match 1-0 to secure promotion to the Premier League, ending a nine-year absence from the top flight. Akintola, however, remained an unused option and did not feature during the final.
Although Akintola was registered for Hull City’s 2026/27 Premier League campaign, summer recruitment under manager Sergej Jakirović further reduced his chances of regular first-team football.
The winger has now agreed to terminate his contract with Hull City and return to Cyprus, where he will continue his career with Omonoia FC.
