Nigerian gospel artist Asu Ekiye has clarified the circumstances surrounding his marital separation, denying claims that he initiated divorce proceedings against his wife.
The clarification came two days after the singer announced the end of his 28-year marriage on social media, sparking widespread reactions from fans and members of the gospel community.
In a follow-up statement shared on his official social media page, the veteran musician revealed that his estranged wife was the one who initiated the move to dissolve their marriage. According to Ekiye, she packed her belongings and left the marriage abruptly, without any prior quarrel or misunderstanding between them.
The singer said he made several attempts to reconcile with his wife and save their decades-long marriage. However, he said his efforts were unsuccessful as she proceeded with the divorce and eventually concluded the legal process.
