Newlywed Couple Die in Helicopter Crash During Honeymoon on Greek Island

A young British couple and their pilot have been k!lled in a helicopter crash on the Greek island of Sifnos.

Greek police said the crash occurred on Monday, August 17, 2026.

The victims were identified as Alexander Cromie and Marie Ebert, who were reportedly on their honeymoon, according to Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

The private helicopter crashed just metres from a landing pad, k!lling the couple and their pilot, who was a Greek national.

According to Kathimerini, the couple had travelled by helicopter from Markopoulo, a village near Athens, to Sifnos, a popular holiday destination.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

The BBC reported that it had contacted the UK Foreign Office, Greek authorities and the aviation company involved for comment.

Cromie’s employer, asset management firm Blackstone, said it was “shocked” by the deaths of its “beloved” employee and his wife.

A senior police official told The Times that the crash occurred shortly before the helicopter was due to land at around 18:15 local time, or 16:15 GMT.

Sifnos Deputy Mayor Manolis Foundoulakis arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and told local news outlet Newsit that there was almost “nothing left” of the aircraft.

He said residents had witnessed the helicopter crash just metres from their homes and reported hearing a “bizarre engine noise” from the aircraft as it approached the landing pad.

According to Foundoulakis, two of the victims were found inside the wreckage, while the third victim was discovered a short distance away.

Firefighters also battled a blaze that broke out following the crash. The fire was brought under control by Monday evening.

Investigators are expected to examine the wreckage and other evidence as they work to establish what caused the fatal crash.
