Troops of Sector 2, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), have rescued a 37-year-old man who escaped from his abductors and was found in a forested area of Kanam Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
The victim, identified as Malam Adamu Umar, was rescued at about 6:45 a.m. on August 10, 2026, on the outskirts of Kukawa village during an offensive operation conducted by the troops.
A military source told Zagazola Makama that Umar, an indigene of Furiyam in Kanam LGA, was abducted from Duguri village in Bauchi State on August 6.
According to the source, Umar managed to escape from his abductors and subsequently wandered through Madam Forest for several days before troops located him during their operation in the area.
The soldiers secured the victim and later handed him over to the leader of Kukawa village to facilitate his safe return and reunification with his family.
The rescue highlights the ongoing efforts by troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE to disrupt the activities of criminal groups and prevent them from using remote forest areas as hideouts or holding locations for kidnapped victims.
The operation also underscores the importance of sustained military presence and offensive operations in areas vulnerable to kidnapping and other criminal activities across the region.
