Anambra Govt Arrests Pregnant Woman Over Alleged Abuse, Starvation of Minor

The Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has condemned the alleged abuse of a young girl in Onitsha, describing the incident as cruel, inhumane, unacceptable, and a gross violation of the child’s rights and dignity.

According to reports, the suspect, Aniagu Precious, an indigene of Enugu State residing in Onitsha, allegedly subjected the minor in her care to severe physical abuse, neglect, and prolonged starvation.

The victim reportedly lost a tooth during the assault and later collapsed at school due to injuries sustained from the abuse, which were worsened by prolonged deprivation of adequate food and care.

Reacting to the incident, Mrs. Onyekesi expressed deep shock and concern, stressing that such acts undermine the values of compassion, responsibility, and respect for human dignity that society must uphold.

She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of children and ensuring that perpetrators of child abuse are brought to justice.

Investigations into the case are ongoing, while relevant authorities continue to take the necessary steps to ensure justice for the victim.
