The leadership of the Labour Party has stated that their presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not collaborate with President Bola Tinubu’s government. This assertion came from two separate interviews with the National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, and the National Legal Adviser of LP, Kehinde Edun.
In response to the possibility of Peter Obi working with the Tinubu government, the Legal Adviser of LP commented, “I believe Obi is pursuing specific goals, particularly since we are confident that we won the election. Therefore, it would be inappropriate for us to express a desire to work with this government. As far as LP is concerned, we are awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal’s ruling that will declare Obi as the winner. That’s what we’re anticipating.”
“This is why we cannot discuss the idea of Obi, the rightful mandate holder, collaborating with someone who is falsely claiming the office. Until this case reaches its conclusion in the Supreme Court, it is not over.”
The National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party also emphasized that their candidate cannot be swayed by such a notion. He is currently focused on regaining his “stolen mandate” through legal channels.
This stance by the Labour party comes in response to an earlier call by Atiku for Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to join his campaign in exposing alleged undisclosed information about Tinubu.
The Labour party’s position is being presented six days after Peter Obi criticized the president on Arise TV’s ‘Morning Show’ in light of the controversy surrounding his academic records at Chicago State University.
Peter Obi stated that a leader who falsifies their qualifications or age cannot be trusted to make the right decisions and is unfit to lead the people.
Obi remarked, “We are at a stage where we are challenging the electoral process, and that process needs to reach a logical conclusion before anything else. This is an integral part of nation-building. The processes through which leaders assume office are as significant as their actions thereafter. It’s crucial for individuals to enter through the proper channels rather than circumvent the process and insist, ‘Let’s move on.’
“The issue of qualification is connected to the integrity and honesty of leaders and their actions. In today’s Nigeria, there are numerous instances of falsified certificates, age discrepancies, and various forms of deceit among leaders. Individuals who engage in such behavior cannot be expected to make the right decisions. This signifies a life built on falsehood.”
