Suspected bandits have reportedly kidnapped the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Bungudu, following a late-night attack on his residence.
Reports indicate that the attackers invaded the area, located less than 20 kilometres from Gusau, the state capital, and moved directly to the chairman’s home, where they launched the operation.
According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen overwhelmed the security personnel stationed at the residence, resulting in the deaths of two police officers and two local vigilantes. The assailants then abducted the council chairman, alongside his wife and children.
Security operatives who arrived at the scene later engaged the attackers in a pursuit. During the operation, they were reportedly able to rescue some of the chairman’s children, with reports suggesting that four or five of them were recovered.
As of the time of filing this report, the Zamfara State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Zamfara State, where communities have continued to face threats from armed groups.
