Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has appealed to some of the country’s biggest music stars, including Davido, Burna Boy and Asake, to use their wealth and influence to support less privileged Nigerians through charitable foundations.
She made the appeal on Saturday during the launch of the National Community Food Bank in Kogi State, where she emphasized that the government cannot shoulder the responsibility of caring for millions of vulnerable citizens alone.
According to the First Lady, successful entertainers are in a unique position to make a lasting impact by giving back to society and supporting people who are struggling to make ends meet.
Drawing inspiration from international music star Akon, who is known for his humanitarian projects across Africa, Remi Tinubu encouraged Nigerian celebrities to establish foundations that provide assistance to those in need.
She acknowledged that there is nothing wrong with enjoying the rewards of success, including owning luxury cars, but stressed that acts of generosity can change lives and help reduce the pressure on the government.
The First Lady also encouraged Nigerians to value honest work, regardless of how small it may seem. She shared the story of a university graduate in Abuja who started selling akara after failing to secure white-collar employment.
According to her, the young man later received support that helped him expand his business. Today, she said, he employs 12 people and has built a successful enterprise.
Remi Tinubu urged Nigerians not to look down on legitimate businesses, noting that hard work and determination can create opportunities and improve lives.
