The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that one person was killed and several others injured during a violent clash between youths from Buskuwa and Mabani villages in Gamawa Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Monday night, August 24, 2026, after three youths from Mabani were allegedly attacked by suspected Buskuwa youths.
The three victims — Babangida Musa, 20; Usman Abdu, 20; and Ya’u Muhammad, 18 — were reportedly attacked with sticks at about 8 p.m. while on their way to Buskuwa.
The command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, said a suspect linked to the initial attack was arrested following the clash.
According to Habib, the incident began when the three youths were allegedly attacked by a group of unidentified youths suspected to be from Buskuwa.
He said the victims were beaten with sticks and sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Habib added that, in a reprisal attack later that night, one Jumba Adamu allegedly mobilised youths from Mabani to Buskuwa, where they attacked residents with sticks.
He said several residents were assaulted during the attack, while one of the victims, Muhammadu Dare, died at the scene. Others also sustained injuries.
Police operatives from the Gamawa Division, in collaboration with local hunters and vigilantes, were promptly deployed to the area following the incident.
“The injured victims and the corpse were immediately evacuated to General Hospital, Gamawa, for medical attention and postmortem examination,” Habib said.
He added that the attending medical doctor certified Dare dead, while three injured victims were admitted for treatment and three others were treated and discharged.
The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the clash.
“Preliminary investigation has commenced, and upon conclusion, the case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for discreet investigation and prosecution,” he said.
