Gunmen have killed three youths in Gwa Rim community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack occurred at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, when the gunmen opened fire on the young men, who were reportedly members of a local vigilante group keeping watch at a community guard post.
A resident, Damba Dang, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, said the attackers struck while the community was asleep, killing three vigilantes.
He lamented the renewed attacks on communities in the area, saying residents were becoming increasingly worried about their safety.
Dang said the killing of the vigilantes was particularly disturbing because they were providing security for the community and helping to protect residents from attacks.
He appealed to security agencies to urgently strengthen security around Gwa Rim and other vulnerable communities in Riyom to prevent further attacks.
Dang also urged security operatives to investigate the incident, track down the perpetrators and ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
