A mother has been accused of kicking her 4-year-old daughter out of a second-story window in Shreveport, Louisiana, leaving the child with two broken arms.
According to information from the Bossier City Police Department obtained by Law & Crime, detectives launched an investigation after the child was taken to the hospital with fractures to both wrists and forearms.
“After the detectives began investigating, they found out that the mother of the child pushed her, kicked her out of the window,” Sergeant Shawn Poudrier said.
Investigators later attempted to reach the child’s mother, 37-year-old Sharonica Davis, but discovered she was already in custody. She had reportedly been arrested and charged with cruelty to juveniles in connection with the same incident. Authorities subsequently added an additional charge of attempted second-degree murder, according to the report.
The injured child has since been placed in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services.
“It’s a sad situation, that’s why I take this so personal,” Poudrier told KTAL.
“You know, I have three small kids, and you see, this work in these cases takes an emotional toll on you. And you want to try to protect every one of them that you can.”
