The Niger State Police Command has taken a nursing student into custody following the death of a lecturer at Newgate University, Minna.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred on January 27, 2026, at around 10:00 a.m., when Engr. Dr. Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede of the Federal Polytechnic Bida visited Stella Joseph, a student of the Niger State School of Nursing and Midwifery in Tunga, Minna, to introduce himself as the university’s new lecturer.
“During the visit, the student served the lecturer spaghetti and egg. Shortly after the meal, he began convulsing and collapsed,” Makama said.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Tudun-Wada Division promptly led a team to the scene. Dr. Aiyede was rushed to General Hospital, Minna, but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The student has been arrested, and police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s death are ongoing.
