At least one person has been killed and three others injured after a man went on a stabbing spree at a utility company office in Germany.

Emergency services launched a major response after the suspect stormed the building and attacked multiple employees. The incident occurred in Mellrichstadt, where the company is based.

Authorities confirmed that a police investigation is underway. A spokesperson said:

“A police operation is currently ongoing in Mellrichstadt. Police officers and emergency services are on the scene in large numbers.”

The suspect, a 21-year-old man, has been apprehended and is currently in police custody. His motive remains unclear at this stage.

According to Bild, the targeted office belongs to the utility provider Überlandwerke Rhön.

A police spokesperson added:

“Our top priority is caring for the injured and determining the exact circumstances of the crime.”

This incident comes just weeks after a separate knife attack at Hamburg Central Station in May, where at least 18 people were injured.

In that case, a 39-year-old woman suddenly pulled out a knife and began stabbing passengers waiting for a train to Munich. Four people were critically injured, six sustained serious wounds, and eight others had minor injuries.

Authorities later revealed the woman, a German national, was known to police and had a history of mental illness, including time spent in a psychiatric facility.
