Former President Muhammadu Buhari has praised the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the election of President Bola Tinubu, urging the opposition to collaborate with the Nigerian leader.

Buhari conveyed this message through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, shortly after the apex court rejected the appeals made by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“After enduring an arduous and costly eight-month legal journey, we have finally reached the end of the road. The nation now deserves a respite. The opposition has put up a commendable fight. Having fully exercised their constitutional rights, they should consider extending a hand of cooperation to the Tinubu/Shettima administration and the APC government,” Buhari was quoted as saying in the statement.

“Let them allow the government to carry out its administration, enabling the people to fully reap the benefits of the promises made by the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

He acknowledged that the judgment came as a welcome relief to him and a significant portion of Nigeria’s citizens.

Buhari sees the verdict as a reaffirmation of the majority’s will against the determined efforts of a resilient minority.

However, he expressed concern about the low voter turnout nationwide, particularly in urban areas, and called for a change in this regard, given the widespread acceptance and vitality of democracy in Nigeria.

The statement concluded by extending Buhari’s well wishes for a successful term in office to President Tinubu and his team, as conveyed by Garba Shehu.
