Peter Okoye Defends Celebrating His Kids’ French Fluency, Asks: “Who Has Speaking a Nigerian Language Helped?”

Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has fired back at critics who took issue with him celebrating his children’s ability to speak French fluently.

The music star recently shared on X that he was impressed by his kids’ language skills while spending time in Paris. He wrote:

“Still in Paris! Watching my kids speak French so effortlessly makes me think… maybe it’s time to own a crib here in Paris. Just a thought.”

While many fans praised his children for being multilingual, others argued that Peter should prioritize teaching them their native Igbo language instead of a foreign one.

Responding to the backlash, the singer questioned the criticism, asking what benefits Nigerian languages have brought to those making such comments. His response sparked fresh debate online, with social media users divided over the importance of preserving indigenous languages versus embracing global opportunities through foreign-language education.
