Donald Trump is reportedly weighing a new round of presidential clemency that could include a wide range of recipients, among them music industry figures and individuals convicted in environmental cases.
According to reporting from CBS News, the list under consideration may include music mogul Sean Combs, who is currently incarcerated on prostitution-related convictions, as well as Pras Michel, who is serving a sentence for foreign lobbying violations.
The potential clemency discussions are said to be part of a broader symbolic initiative sometimes described as a “250 pardons for 250 years” effort tied to Independence Day celebrations, though details of the plan have not been confirmed.
Sources told CBS News that Trump was scheduled to meet Friday afternoon, July 3, to review pardon recommendations and make decisions based on input from advisers. However, the White House has not publicly confirmed any finalized list.
The White House has previously pushed back on speculation about a possible pardon for Combs. Trump himself said in January that Combs had written to request clemency, but that he was not considering it at the time.
In a statement to CBS News, a White House official emphasized that “the president is the ultimate decider on any clemency related actions.” Trump has also not publicly committed to a specific number of pardons that may be issued.
The discussion comes as Trump continues a pattern of issuing clemency to a range of political allies and other figures, a practice that has previously attracted attention and lobbying efforts. Earlier reporting from The New York Times noted that Trump had not ruled out reviewing additional pardon requests but had not confirmed any final decisions.
