Actress Tiffany Haddish seeks dismissal of DUI case, says 4-year delay is costing her acting jobs

Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish is seeking to have her long-running DUI case in Georgia dismissed, arguing that years of delays have violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Haddish filed a motion asking the court to throw out the case after it reportedly remained unresolved for more than four years.

Haddish was arrested in January 2022 in Peachtree City, Georgia, after police allegedly found her asleep behind the wheel around 4 a.m. Authorities charged her with DUI and improper stopping on a roadway after suspecting she had smoked marijuana.

In the new filing, Haddish argued that the case has stalled because the judge has yet to rule on key legal motions, including a motion to suppress evidence that was argued in court in May 2024. Her lawyers said they repeatedly contacted the court over the past two years for updates but were continually told officials were still “working on it.”

According to the filing, Haddish announced she was “ready for trial” about 10 different times while awaiting decisions that never came. She also claimed the unresolved case has begun affecting her career and finances.

Haddish said the pending DUI matter has created difficulties in obtaining travel documents for overseas work opportunities, particularly in Australia. She added that she has been forced to hire costly third-party assistance to help manage the situation.

The filing further stated that some companies have allegedly been reluctant to work with her because the case remains unresolved, resulting in financial losses. After years of delays, Haddish is now asking the court to permanently dismiss the case.
