Actress Victoria Inyama has said that undergoing circumcision as a child is, in her view, one of the best things that happened to her.
Speaking during an Instagram Live conversation with media personality Daddy Freeze, she explained that she grew up living with her grandmother in the village, where the procedure—commonly referred to as female circumcision or female genital mutilation—was carried out on her.
When asked directly by Daddy Freeze if she had been circumcised, she responded:
“Yes, I was because I grew up in the village with my grandmother. That is the best thing they did for me… I swear to God.”
She added that, in her personal view, the experience has influenced her behaviour and self-control.
Victoria also stated that she was about five or six years old when the procedure was carried out, adding that she lost consciousness due to the pain.
When asked whether she would allow her daughter to undergo circumcision, she said she would not make that decision herself, noting that it would be up to the child’s father.
Her comments have sparked reactions online, given the ongoing global debate surrounding female circumcision, which is widely condemned by health and human rights organizations.
