Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede, a 46-year-old Nigerian woman who had been reported missing since July 30, 2025, was found deceased in Naperville, Illinois.
Abosede was last seen around 9:20 a.m. on the day she went missing, walking away from her home in the 2100 block of Sudbury Street.
Her body was discovered on the afternoon of Thursday, August 14, near a trailhead at the southwest corner of the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, located at 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive. This information was released jointly by the Naperville Police Department and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
Naperville police officers responded to a call reporting the discovery of a body. They were guided through an area of dense tall grass to the location. Authorities noted that the clothing on the body matched what Abosede had been wearing when last seen.
“We believe the individual to be Sinmi, but the final confirmation will come from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office,” said Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres.
Chief Arres also expressed sympathy, saying, “We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincere condolences to the Abosede family during this difficult time. We thank the community for their support and ask that the family’s privacy be respected.”
Though official identification is pending, Abosede’s cousin, Fehintola da-Silva, confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media platform X, writing, “My cousin, Sinmi, was found deceased. This has been a blow to our family. Thank you to everyone who shared, reposted, and reached out during the search. May her soul rest in peace.”
St. Raphael Catholic Church, where Abosede was a member, also released a statement confirming her passing and offering prayers for her and her loved ones. The church said, “Our parish family has been praying diligently for Sinmi’s safe return. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of her passing. We remain committed to lifting her and her family in prayer. May our Blessed Mother and St. Raphael guide Sinmi into Eternal Life.”
Authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected in connection with Abosede’s death.
