Platform Reinstated: Under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) has resumed nationwide through a secure, user-friendly digital platform: https://possap.gov.ng.
Motivation for Change: The decision responds to widespread public complaints about the harassment of motorists over the use of tinted windows. It also recognizes the growing number of factory-fitted tinted glass vehicles on Nigerian roads and the need for a transparent, accountable, and standardized system.
Security Implications: While tinted windows are common in modern vehicles, they have been exploited for criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and “one-chance” scams. These issues hinder police visibility and operational effectiveness. The reactivated system aims to distinguish legitimate users—such as those with medical conditions or security personnel—from individuals attempting to evade law enforcement.
Digital Verification & Security Features:
Permit applications are fully digital.
Applicants must verify their identity using their National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN).
Biometric data and background checks are also required.
Permits are QR-coded and are expected to be processed within 72 hours.
Grace Period & Enforcement: A 30-day grace period, beginning May 1st, 2025, has been introduced to allow motorists to comply with the new system. Full enforcement will begin at the end of this window. Any officers found engaging in misconduct—such as extortion or harassment during enforcement—will face strict disciplinary action.
