Canadian music superstar Drake has added another chapter to the long-running “Drake curse” conversation after a costly $1.5 million wager failed to pay off in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
Before the championship match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the rapper revealed a betting slip showing he had staked $1.5 million on Argentina to beat Spain within 90 minutes. A successful prediction would have earned him a payout of more than $5.1 million.
However, the bet quickly unraveled as Spain claimed the World Cup crown. Ferran Torres scored the game’s only goal in the 106th minute of extra time, sealing a hard-fought 1-0 victory for La Roja and securing the nation’s second FIFA World Cup title. The result also ended Argentina’s bid to retain the trophy.

The popular fan belief suggests that whenever Drake publicly supports a team or athlete, they often end up on the losing side.
