Four Corps Members, Soldier Burnt to Death in Adamawa Auto Crash

Six persons, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), were burnt to death in a fatal road accident in Adamawa State.

The crash occurred at about 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in the Narehi area of Girei Local Government Area.

The spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday night.

“The unfortunate incident involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five passengers from Yola to Mubi,” the statement read.

“Preliminary findings revealed that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, causing the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames.

“Tragically, all five passengers aboard the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire following the collision.”

Preliminary identification showed that four of the deceased were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State.

They were identified as Suleiman Juliet, Usman Shuaibu, both indigenes of Kaduna State, and Hafsat Hassan. The identity of the remaining victims is yet to be confirmed.

The police also disclosed that a military personnel attached to the gun truck lost his life in the crash.

“Police operatives, in collaboration with other emergency responders, promptly responded to the scene. The corpses have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Yola, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining bodies and locate their families,” Nguroje added.

He further quoted the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State as expressing heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the National Youth Service Corps, and all those affected by the tragic incident.
