A Kannywood actress, Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court sitting in Kano for abusing the Nigerian currency.
The judgment was delivered on Friday, February 13, 2026, by Justice S.M. Shuaibu, who found the actress guilty of mutilating the naira.
Samha was brought before the court on a one-count charge for tampering with a ₦1,000 note, an offence that goes against the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.
According to the charge, the incident happened in 2022, when she was accused of soiling a ₦1,000 note with her nose — an act considered a violation of the law protecting the country’s currency.
When the charge was read in court, Samha did not deny it. She pleaded guilty.
Following her plea, the prosecution lawyer, Musa Isah, presented the facts of the case and asked the court to convict and sentence her accordingly.
In her defence, the actress begged the court for mercy. She told the judge she was a first-time offender and expressed regret over what she did, asking for leniency.
After listening to both sides, Justice Shuaibu sentenced her to six months in prison. However, the court also gave her an option to pay a fine of ₦200,000 instead of serving the jail term.
The case serves as another reminder of the legal consequences of mishandling the naira, which Nigerian authorities have repeatedly warned against.
