Bayern Munich winger Jamal Musiala has revealed that he has been diagnosed with “treatable absence seizures” after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days.
The 23-year-old Germany international fell to the ground just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute during Bayern Munich’s friendly against FC Heidenheim on Tuesday night.
The incident came just days after Musiala experienced a similar episode during Saturday’s friendly against RB Leipzig.
Following the latest incident, Musiala took to Instagram to reassure fans that he is doing well and receiving medical care.
“First things first, I am doing well. I am incredibly grateful for your messages and your support,” he wrote.
Musiala explained that he had been diagnosed with brief and temporary, but treatable, absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction.
He said the condition can result in incidents such as those witnessed during the matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim.
The Bayern star acknowledged that the episodes may appear alarming but said he remains optimistic about his recovery and is receiving excellent medical care.
“Importantly, there is no further health risk involved,” Musiala said, adding that he had consulted closely with neurologists before deciding to continue playing football.
According to the midfielder, Bayern Munich and his personal support network have been supporting him throughout the process.
Musiala also said that continuing to play football and compete for trophies with his teammates remains an important part of his recovery.
“I have taken full responsibility for this decision. Overall, I feel very positive and am on the right track,” he added.
The German international concluded by thanking fans for their support while asking for privacy as he manages the condition with his family, the club and medical professionals.
