The Ondo State Police Command has arrested ten men in connection with a robbery and an assassination attempt on the traditional ruler of Igoba community in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the hoodlums attacked the community on Thursday, October 2, 2025, stealing valuables from residents at gunpoint and injuring some of their victims. The traditional ruler, Obaloogun of Igoba, Oba Adeniyi Adinlewa John, reportedly escaped the attack after the assailants allegedly invaded his palace.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.
“The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the arrest of ten suspects in connection with a violent attack on Igoba Community at about 11:30 p.m.,” the statement read.
According to him, the attackers, armed with firearms, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons, stormed the community “with the intent to wreak havoc.”
“In the course of their violent activities, one Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo was viciously attacked, injured, and dispossessed of her belongings.
“The assailants further advanced to the palace of His Royal Highness, Oba Adinlewa John of Igoba, where they attempted to assassinate the monarch. Fortunately, the royal father narrowly escaped the life-threatening assault.”
Ayanlade said the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, immediately deployed tactical teams led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) to the area, resulting in the arrest of ten suspects.
He added that the suspects had confessed to their various roles in the incident and would be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
Items recovered from the suspects include two locally fabricated pistols, a single-barrel gun, several rounds of live ammunition, assorted charms, knives, machetes, and other dangerous weapons used during the attack.
