2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on Nigerians to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general election. He described the PVC as the most powerful weapon against bad governance and election manipulation.

In a statement titled “PVC is the Bridge to a New Nigeria,” Obi appealed to citizens of all ages not to sell their votes, warning that vote-buying is simply an “investment in corruption” by dishonest politicians.

“Today, I want to plead with every Nigerian, young and old, to heed this call to action. The future of our dear nation is in your hands. The greatest strength of democracy is in the voter’s card,” he said.

Obi highlighted the significance of the PVC, calling it “the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor for a better life, against injustice and bad leadership.” He urged Nigerians to get organized, register, and safeguard their PVCs to make election rigging more difficult.

He also warned about the dangers of selling votes:

“Those who buy votes are not offering you charity; they are investing in their own corruption. They buy votes so they can steal from our treasury once in office. They loot funds meant for schools, hospitals, and job creation. These people are criminals in disguise, not leaders.”

According to Obi, selling votes is equivalent to mortgaging the nation’s future:

“You are not just selling an election; you are selling the very opportunities that could lift you and your family out of poverty — the schools your children deserve, the hospitals that should save your loved ones, and the jobs that could restore dignity and hope.”

He stressed that Nigeria’s rescue lies with its citizens through the power of the ballot:

“Our democracy is at stake. That’s why I urge every eligible Nigerian to register, collect, and protect your PVC. When the time comes, use it wisely. Vote for leaders with competence, character, capacity, and compassion. Don’t be intimidated, deceived, or bought.”

Obi concluded by reminding Nigerians that true power belongs to the people — not corrupt politicians who trade the nation’s future for their selfish gains.
