Detectives from the Ebute-Ero Division in Lagos have apprehended a suspected traffic robber and recovered stolen goods worth approximately N20 million, following a swift police response to a tip-off about a brazen theft on the CMS-Marina Bridge.
Confirming the arrest to newsmen, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that on April 25, 2025, a criminal gang stole a large sack containing assorted human hair products—valued at around N20 million—from a moving truck. The theft occurred unbeknownst to the driver while the vehicle was in transit along the CMS-Marina Bridge.
According to Hundeyin, officers responded promptly to a tip-off and arrived at the scene, where they apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Austine (male), at the Marina car park beneath the bridge. Austine had sustained injuries after jumping from the bridge in an attempt to evade arrest. He was found in possession of the stolen items and was immediately taken to the hospital for medical treatment under police custody.
A manhunt is currently underway to track down and apprehend other members of the criminal gang.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all road users across the state. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and to support security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious activities.
