Police Operatives from the Enugu State Command, stationed at the Igbo-Eze North Police Division, in collaboration with the Neighborhood Watch Group, successfully dismantled a child-stealing syndicate. They apprehended a 21-year-old suspect, Ifeanyi Omeke, at Igogoro Village in Enugu-Ezike, a community within the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area. This operation occurred on October 27, 2023, around 1:30 p.m.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect was caught red-handed as he attempted to sneak into the complainant’s residence with the intent to abduct a one-year and three-month-old girl.
“The suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he was contracted by his associates, who are still at large, to steal children for ritual and other criminal purposes,” Ndukwe revealed.
Furthermore, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). This transfer is intended for a thorough investigation that will lead to the apprehension of other members of the criminal syndicate and their subsequent prosecution.
