The Lagos State Police Command has officially identified the individual featured in a viral video, wherein he is seen firing an AK47 rifle at Ladipo Market, as Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, currently serving in a Lagos squadron of the Mobile Police (MOPOL).
In the video, Inspector Kwanchi can be observed celebrating the reopening of the popular Ladipo Market in Lagos State by discharging his AK-47. This act prompted an immediate call for investigation from the Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi.
The spokesperson of the Lagos Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Inspector Kwanchi’s arrest in a statement on social media, and clarified that the police officer in question, Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi of the Mobile Police (MOPOL), has been apprehended for subsequent disciplinary actions.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has issued a directive for the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against Inspector Kwanchi, emphasizing the unprofessional, unethical, and perilous nature of his conduct.
The Lagos State Police Command assures the public that it will not condone any form of misconduct exhibited by its officers and personnel. Those found to be at fault will be held accountable according to established procedures.
It is important to note that the police had previously vowed to investigate the viral video, as stated by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who affirmed, “We will identify the individual with the AK47 and take appropriate action. Thank you.”
