The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the safe release of Chief J. J. Ezeokafor, father of Nigerian socialite Jowizaza, who was abducted alongside a Rev. Sister by suspected armed criminals in Ifite-Awka.
Ezeokafor, a businessman, was reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, shortly after leaving his residence for a prayer ground in Awka.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said security authorities were taking steps to determine the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release and gather information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
Ikenga said the information obtained would also assist authorities in identifying and apprehending those behind the abduction.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, welcomed the safe return of the victims and ordered intensified intelligence-led operations to track down the perpetrators.
The ongoing search involves personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agunechemba security operatives and other relevant security agencies.
Authorities have continued efforts to uncover the circumstances of the abduction and bring those responsible to justice.
