Senator Francis Fadahunsi has come under renewed criticism following a video in which he was heard making controversial remarks to voters and supporters at his polling unit during Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
In the footage, Fadahunsi urged his supporters to “monitor their ballot” and was reportedly heard saying, “Whoever does not vote appropriately…” before proceeding to give further instructions to those around him.
The comments have sparked criticism from the Imole Campaign Council, which accused the senator of attempting to intimidate voters and interfere with their freedom to make their choices at the polls.
Reacting to the incident, the council’s spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, described the senator’s remarks as “scandalous, unacceptable and undemocratic.”
The campaign council also called on security agencies to investigate the incident and take appropriate action, arguing that comments capable of influencing or intimidating voters should not be tolerated during an electoral process.
The development has added to concerns over the conduct of political actors during the Osun governorship election, with calls for voters’ rights and the integrity of the ballot to be protected.
