Family Demands Justice Over Killing of 65-Year-Old Woman in Anambra, Appeals to Tinubu, Soludo

The family of a 65-year-old woman, Regina Nwoye, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, and relevant security authorities to launch a thorough investigation into her death and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

In a petition signed by her daughter, Blessing Uwechia, a broadcast journalist, the family called for an immediate probe into the incident and the prosecution of all persons found culpable.

The family stressed that justice must be served and that every individual involved in the killing must be held accountable.

Nwoye was reportedly attacked at her residence in Ogbu Village, Ivite Umueri, in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State on July 14, 2026.

According to the petition, the deceased was allegedly attacked and stabbed multiple times, suffering severe injuries before she was left to bleed.

The family alleged that residents who responded after hearing her cries for help were able to apprehend one suspect identified as Sunday Ndukaife and handed him over to the police. However, they raised concerns that more than one person may have been involved in the attack.

The petition stated:

“My mother was brutally attacked, stabbed, and left to bleed to death. Someone heard her shouting and alerted other villagers, but by the time they arrived, she had already sustained life-threatening injuries.

“The community apprehended one of the suspects and handed him over to the police. Although he claimed he acted alone, some members of the community said they saw two people at the scene.”

The family also expressed concern over the delay in getting medical attention for Nwoye, alleging that she was moved between hospitals in Awka for several hours before she eventually died.

“My mother would have survived if the hospitals consulted had agreed to treat her promptly. Instead, she was moved from one hospital to another in Awka for several hours before she eventually died,” the petition stated.

The family is now calling for a transparent and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

“Our family is not asking for special treatment. We are asking for what every Nigerian deserves—truth, justice, and accountability,” the petition added.

Reacting to the development, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochi Ikenga, confirmed that the petition had been received.

“I have seen the petition. I don’t know who is investigating the case,” Ikenga said.
