11 die after vehicle plunges off Ogun bridge

The Federal Road Safety Corps (Federal Road Safety Corps), Ogun Command, has confirmed that no fewer than 11 people died in a lone road crash on Sunday along the Eruku Bridge on the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway.

The Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta by the Command’s Public Education Officer, Mr Odunsi Afolabi.

Ogunjobi said the accident occurred on Sunday night and involved a gold Toyota vehicle with registration number GGE 722 KJ. He explained that the vehicle somersaulted and plunged off the Eruku Bridge, trapping all occupants inside as the doors reportedly locked.

Personnel from the Itori Unit Command of the FRSC were immediately deployed to the scene for rescue operations.

He confirmed that all 11 occupants of the vehicle—10 adult males and one adult female—died in the crash. According to him, FRSC personnel, with support from local residents, had to dismantle the vehicle before recovering the bodies.

The remains of the victims have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ifo, Ogun State.
