In notices issued on Tuesday, the apex court indicated that it will rule on four separate appeals arising from leadership disputes within the two opposition parties.

The PDP cases centre on the validity of the national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025. The ADC matters, on the other hand, challenge judicial вмеш in what is described as the party’s internal affairs, as well as a dispute over who is the authentic national chairman among Senator David Mark, Nafiu Bala Gombe, and Temitope Ogga.

The development comes on the heels of a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja on Wednesday, which restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising recent congresses conducted by the Mark-led National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ADC.

The ruling has generated mixed reactions across the political space. Dumebi Kachikwu, the ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, who backs Ogga, welcomed the judgment, saying it had effectively halted what he described as an attempted takeover of the party by the Mark-led leadership.

However, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Mark-led faction, said the group would study the ruling and take appropriate legal steps.

Meanwhile, an Abuja-based policy think tank, Heritage Centre, described the judgment as evidence of “state capture,” while legal practitioner Idris Falo said it could affect the ADC’s ability to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Supreme Court reserved judgment

A five-member panel of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, had on April 22 reserved judgment in the cases after all parties adopted their written arguments.
