Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday, April 27, mocked former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, during an appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a video circulating online, Sowore was seen addressing Malami directly, saying the former Minister of Justice was now experiencing the same oppression he allegedly meted out to him and others while in office during the Buhari administration.
“You see how it feels now to be persecuted. When you were with Buhari at that time, you were bragging. We warned you then that there were failures in the justice system, but you didn’t listen. Now, the system is dealing with you,” Sowore said.
Despite his criticism, Sowore acknowledged Malami’s resilience, adding, “At least I’m glad that you are strong.” He maintained that the challenges within Nigeria’s justice system affect both critics and former government officials.
“We are not all on the same side… even the oppressors are being oppressed now,” he said.
Sowore further reiterated his long-standing stance on governance and accountability in Nigeria.
“As far as the Nigerian project is concerned, no matter how powerful you are, we will never support you. We will remain resilient,” he said.
Responding briefly, Malami said he remains committed to the legal process and cannot be intimidated.
“I can never be down. I have been attending all my court sittings, and I will continue to do so. I remain strong,” he said.
