The United States Mission in Nigeria has warned that visa overstays by Nigerian travellers could negatively affect other citizens seeking entry into the U.S.
In an advisory issued on Monday, the mission emphasised that strict compliance with U.S. immigration laws is essential to maintaining travel opportunities for Nigerians visiting for education, business, tourism, and family purposes.
It explained that when travellers overstay their visas or violate entry conditions, it may influence how future applications from the same country are reviewed.
“Visa overstays by Nigerian travellers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens,” the mission stated.
“Strengthening compliance helps protect access for students, business travellers, and families who travel responsibly.”
The mission also expressed concern over visa fraud and the misuse of travel documents, describing such acts as serious offences that undermine the integrity of the immigration system.
It urged individuals with credible information about visa fraud to report it through official consular fraud prevention channels via [email protected] or [email protected].
