The United Arab Emirates has warned Iran that it may take stronger military action if missile and drone attacks on its territory continue.

Speaking to CNN, Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al-Hashimy said the UAE is ready to defend itself but hopes the situation does not escalate further.

“We are prepared to defend ourselves. We hope it doesn’t come to it, but we’re not going to sit idly by as we continue to be attacked,” she said. On whether the UAE could take a more combative role, Al-Hashimy added, “If it needs to come to that, it will come to that.” She emphasized that the next move is up to Tehran.

The warning comes after what officials described as one of the largest direct attacks on the UAE in recent history. According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, Iran launched at least 137 ballistic missiles and 209 drones, most of which were intercepted. Fourteen drones reportedly made impact.

Key cities, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai, were targeted, raising concerns about regional spillover from the ongoing Israel–Iran conflict.

Al-Hashimy stressed that the UAE’s defenses are strong. “We have one of the best air-to-missile defense systems in the world and are doing everything to stay safe and secure,” she said. She reassured that the country’s infrastructure and protection of citizens and residents remain a top priority.
