The Ikorodu High Court in Lagos State has ordered that three DNA tests be carried out abroad to determine the paternity of Liam, the son left behind by late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Questions over Liam’s paternity were raised by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who has repeatedly insisted that a DNA test must be conducted before his son’s remains can be laid to rest. Mohbad passed away on September 27, 2023.

At the resumed hearing of the paternity suit between Joseph Aloba and Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, on Tuesday, February 3, counsel to Mr Aloba, Barrister Oladayo Ogungbe, disclosed that the court had ruled in favour of conducting multiple DNA tests outside Nigeria.

According to Ogungbe, the court directed both parties to submit the names of three foreign laboratories capable of carrying out the tests. Mr Aloba’s legal team and Wunmi’s team are each to propose three facilities abroad.

The court will then select one facility from each list, while also choosing an additional independent centre. In total, three separate DNA tests are expected to be conducted. The court further ruled that all selected facilities must be capable of performing tissue-based DNA testing.

The case has been adjourned to February 10 for further proceedings.
