Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to former governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Speaking at the Kano Government House on Sunday, May 4, during an address to 484 local government councillors from the state’s 44 LGAs, Governor Yusuf declared his continued commitment to the political ideals and direction established by his predecessor.
“We will continue to follow the path of our leader. Wherever he goes politically, we will follow. He is our leader, and we are proud of him,” Yusuf stated.
His remarks come amid a wave of defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), sparking speculation about possible realignments among governors. Yusuf’s comments were widely interpreted as a firm reaffirmation of his political allegiance during a period of heightened party instability.
In his address, the governor also called on local councillors to intensify their grassroots engagement, emphasizing their role as a vital bridge between the government and the people.
“You are the eyes and ears of government at the grassroots,” Yusuf said, as quoted by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. “Go back to your wards, listen to the people, and present their most urgent needs. Once you do that, we will act.”
He further announced that nearly N5 billion has been allocated for ward-level projects aimed at addressing critical local infrastructure needs, including classrooms, drainage systems, and other community-specific priorities.
“We must be sincere, transparent, and committed in the way we use public funds,” the governor added. “Every kobo must go into projects that directly benefit our people.”
