Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a man suspected of spying near the headquarters of the 25 Brigade in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The arrest was made at about 10:15 p.m. on July 24, 2026, during a routine security patrol around the brigade’s perimeter. According to military sources, the suspect was found hiding behind the first security checkpoint along the road leading from Damboa town to the military facility, prompting troops to stop and question him.
A search of the suspect reportedly uncovered a torchlight and a prayer rosary. He was immediately taken into custody for further investigation.
The suspect is currently being held at the 25 Medical Inspection Room (MIR), where security personnel are conducting preliminary interrogation to determine his identity, establish his intentions, and investigate any possible connections to terrorist groups operating within the region.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama said the arrest highlights the continued vigilance of troops deployed in the North-East, particularly in protecting military installations from espionage and other security threats linked to insurgent activities.
Military authorities also stated that although the overall security situation across the North-East remains relatively stable, the operating environment is still unpredictable. As a result, troops have continued to maintain a high level of alertness and operational readiness to respond to any emerging threats.
