Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Defects from PDP to APC

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Friday, June 6, during a press briefing at the Government House in Uyo.

Governor Eno stated that his decision followed “three months of wide consultation” with stakeholders across the state. While expressing gratitude to the PDP for its support since the inception of his administration, he emphasized that it was time for what he described as a “progressive move.”

“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your elected servant, I have decided to progressively move to the APC,” Eno declared.

He cited admiration for President Bola Tinubu and the need to support Senate President Godswill Akpabio as key motivations for the switch.

“We are joining the APC today in the interest of the state and out of our deep respect for President Tinubu. This move will also enable us to provide the needed support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio,” he said. “We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness but from a position of strength and vitality. This is about aligning our state with the center.”

Governor Eno assured the people of Akwa Ibom that his administration remains committed to inclusive governance and will continue to serve all residents, regardless of political affiliation.

The defection event was attended by several APC governors, including the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, along with Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Bassey Otu (Cross River), among others.
